It was an uneasy time for the world after the events of the, “Kanto Safari Zone Massacre.” A state of unease for the regions around the world, and even more so in Kanto itself. Not only were some people scared to come out of their own homes, but some had taken the liberty to abuse the new period of disarray. To put an end to this wild period, the greatest powers of each region, their Champion, have come to one place to discuss…

Date: Unknown…

Time: 11:59 AM

Location: Special Room

When a person would think of a room where the Champions of all the regions would meet, they would think that it would be eloquent, grand, and just bursting with color from the Champions’ respective regions! However, that would not be true in any way or form. The truth of the room was that it was pure white, every single wall was an ivory white with no variation. In the center of the room was a large round table made from top quality wood, accompanied by five chairs that were evenly spaced out around the table’s perimeter. There were two doors that made the room accessible, both on opposite sides of the room. However, the most unique feature of the room would be that it only had three walls. Instead of a normal fourth white wall, the entire fourth wall was a ginormous, translucent grandfather clock. It accurately depicted the time as well as give everyone inside the room a view of all the mechanisms inside it.

BING BONG…BING BONG…

And with that, both hands of the grandfather clock pointed upwards to the 12. As if on cue, one of the two doors of the room creaked open and four people walked through it and into the room. They were the Champions of their regions, and one of them was the Champion of two regions.

The Champion of two regions, Lance, was the first one into the room. His brown eyes were stone-cold serious as he looked ahead and made his way to his preferred seat. His spiky carmine hair bobbed with each step he took in his intimidating Champion attire. His black boots clonked against the tiled floor while his cape fluttered behind him like a gentle butterfly. As Lance took his seat, he rested his cheek against the knuckles of his balled-up fist.

The next Champion that stepped through was a young-adult in formal attire, Steven. As he calmly walked into the room with a collected expression on his face, his light steel blue eyes locked onto Lance for a moment before he glanced away. He took his seat like a normal man and waited for the others to take their place.

Perhaps, the most silent one out of the bunch of Champions walked through next. Her attire was all black, her long blonde hair flowed behind her like an elegant river. Her golden eyes could possibly settle  an angry hoard of rampaging pokémon with just one look. This was Cynthia of the Sinnoh region, and she gracefully took her seat. With her hands on her lap, she crossed one leg over the other and waited for the last Champion to take his seat.

Said Champion strutted slowly over to his seat in his oversized, faded brown poncho. His would be wild mane of red and orange hair was restrained to a ponytail, and his straight posture simply commanded respect of all those around him. Draped around the collar of his poncho, three pokéballs dangled from a single rope on each side. He simply grabbed seat, turned it around and then sat on it. While not the most refined ways to sit in a place such as this, he was excused due to his age.

“How long has it been since the Kalos League was established?” Lance asked the group as they all were now seated. There was no answer given, but stares were casted at Lance. “It’s been almost two months since they established their region’s official Pokémon League, and still there is no one who either claimed or was assigned that title.” He firmly stated as he let out a sigh of what one could pin as disappointment. “I swear that region is a complete mess.”

“Well, I’m sure that the Kalos League officials are just taking their time to carefully handpick the right Champion. I believe we all know that this is something that cannot be rushed or botched.” Steven spoke as he clasped his hands together and leaned slightly forward.

“Enough about Kalos,” Cynthia’s menacing voice declared as she looked at both Steven and Lance. “We are not here to discuss about them, we are here to discuss about the region of Kanto.” She clarified as her eyes narrowed accusingly at Lance. Said Champion frowned as he lowered his leg and took on a more professional posture in his seat.

“Are you sure about that? Because I believe I’ve heard many events transpiring in Sinnoh that you’ve kept quiet about.” He shot back at her with a chilling tone of voice. The blonde immediately looked away for a moment with a scowl, causing Lance to smile in response. “And that’s what I thought.”

“I think I’ve heard enough about this,” Alder gruffly groaned as he got up from his seat. “And old man like me shouldn’t even be here. Besides, if it’s just a Kanto issue then the region of Unova has nothing to worry about.” Alder pointed out as he began to head for the door he entered.

“Not quite,” Lance interjected as he reached for something in the pocket of his pants. Alder stopped in his tracks for a moment while he gazed over his shoulder to see Lance hold up a cassette tape player in his hand and a note on the table. “Alder, this was left on the steps of the Indigo Plateau…I’m very sorry.” Lance lamented as he hung his head in grief and slid the two objects to Alder’s portion of the round table. The Unova Champion’s attention was now piqued with some concern as he stepped closer to the table to hear the tape’s recording.

At first, there is only heavy breathing heard in the tape along with the sound of a door being shut. Then, some creaks on wooden floorboards can softly be heard in the background. Two faint voices can be heard in the far distance, but they’re undistinguishable. The creaking continues as the two voices become more prominent, one is the sound of a child laughing while the other is that of a baby pokémon… Suddenly, the two, now clear voices let out an ear piecing scream before the recording suddenly goes quiet…Faint whimpers of an injured beast echo softly before the recording abruptly ends…

The entire room was silent as the recording stopped. Cynthia and Steven were shocked by the contents of the tape as their shocked expressions portrayed. Lance still hung his head low as he slowly rocked his body like he was about to let out tears of sadness. Alder’s teeth were clenched with unadulterated fury and rage as his fists were balled up with the same emotion.

“Lance, that better now have been who I think it was!” Alder shouted as he slammed his fist on the table snapping the other two Champions to snap out of their daze. In his fit of rage, Alder snatched up the note that accompanied the tape and opened it up. As the aged man read the paper, his expression only further contorted with rage. Soon, the paper was crunched up in Alder’s rage as he slammed the note onto the table and furiously glared at Lance.

“Lance, you better tell me who fucking left these things!” Alder demanded as he looked about ready to flip the entire table high into the air. The Hoenn Champion seeing this shot out of his seat and tried his best to restrain Alder, but to very little success. The Kanto and Johto Champion kept his position as he thought about just how to tell Alder who left the items.

“The one who left those at the Indigo Plateau was the very same man who was behind the incident of Fuchsia City.” Lance regretfully informed Alder, whose pupils shrunk down to pin-prick size.

“WHAT?!” Alder bellowed as Steven tried to hold Alder back. “WHY WOULD MY GRANDSON, LET ALONE A CHILD GET DRAGGED INTO THIS?!” Alder urged as he once again pounded the table. Cynthia who was still trying to think about this situation flinched from the loud bang that came from Alder’s action.

“Alder, I don’t know. Just please sta-“

“Bullshit you don’t know! That routine could work out with the public, but not me!” Alder informed as flung Steven off him. The steel blue haired trainer was about to try and restrain Alder again before the wandering Champion signaled to Steven not to. The Unovan simply took a deep breath before he focused all his rage onto Lance.

“If I wasn’t the Champion of Unova right now, I would be well on my way to tear Kanto up from the bedrock up. I already lost family close to me, and I am not about to lose my grandson. Unfortunately, I must put my faith in you to get my grandson back safely. So please, make sure that this man is brought to justice, and my grandson is returned safely to me. If not, then that man will be the least of your worries.” Alder threatened Lance as his frustrated expression and tone of voice did not let up once. After he said that, he turned his back and walked out of the room having said what he needed to say.

“Excuse me for a moment,” Cynthia requested as she rose from her seat. Her heels clacked on the floor as she paced around the table to the crunched-up note. “If no one minds, I think we should all see what is written on this note.” The Sinnoh Champion suggested as she looked around to see the remaining two champions nod their heads. At the approval, Cynthia picked up the note and cleared her throat.

Dear Champion Alder, I have taken it upon myself to extract your alleged grandson and starter pokémon from Unova. If you ever want to see him again, alive and in one piece just follow these two-simple rules. Stay in Unova and do not send anyone over to Kanto. Break any of these rules in the slightest, and the boy and pokémon both lose one body part. Depending on the intensity, will depend on what he loses.

“Cynthia, please tell me you’re joking.” Steven insisted in a worried tone. “I know this isn’t the time for that, but please at least tell me that is not what’s written.” He insisted even more as he walked over to look at the open note in Cynthia’s hands. Said blonde was completely appalled at the note’s harmful meaning behind its simplicity. Steven’s lips curved downward as he saw that Cynthia read the note word for word.

“Lance, is there anything else that this Toby left?” Cynthia asked as she passed the note to Steve. The carmine haired grimaced as he once again dug into his pockets and pulled out two more notes, one having a large “C” on it while the other had a large “S” on it. He slid the notes across the table to the two Champions.

“Unfortunately, yes,” Lance noted as he rose from his seat and looked towards the giant grandfather clock wall. The two Champions picked up their respective notes and read them at a quick pace. “It seems to me that this is all one big game to him, and he only wants Kanto to play.” Lance continued as he folded his arms behind his back and looked up at the large pendulum inside the clock swing gently.

“T-this is insane Lance, why is he doing this? Can’t you do anything, you’re the Champion of Kanto!” Steven proclaimed as he stuffed his note into one of the pockets of his suit.

“I’m guessing you were also threatened?” Cynthia questioned as she tucked away her note. Lance only nodded as he pulled out a piece of paper with a large “L” on it. “So, this Toby is restricting the Champions to not intervene. Although we don’t know why at this point, we can only assume that he is planning something dangerous.” Cynthia hypothesized as she slowly waltzed over to the door everyone came through.

“So what do we do then?” Steven asked as he began to follow Cynthia. “We can’t send anyone from our leagues, that would draw media attention and take them away from their posts.” The Steel-type trainer thought aloud.

“It’s a simple answer, we wait.” Lance cut through the other two’s thought process. “The trainers in Kanto are more than capable of taking down Toby and bringing him in to justice. He only got lucky the first time because Fuchsia was not prepared and hasn’t seen any kind of trouble since the war.” Lance assured as he looked over to the two Champions.

“But how? This man got over to Unova, Sinnoh, and Hoenn in no time flat after what happened in Fuchsia.” Steven reminded Lance of Toby’s feats. Lance only laughed as he turned around to face the two Champions to show his beaming confident smile.

“Because Kanto is a strong region, we learn and adapt to new changes and threats. No one trick can work twice on us. So, while none of us can do anything and we can’t send any members of our leagues after this man, I will promise you two.” Lance motivated the two as he shot one of his fists into the air. “That someone in Kanto will stop this man!” Lance shouted as Cynthia’s and Steven’s faded away very slowly, their positivity growing as well.

“Alright, we’ll put faith in Kanto’s trainers.” Cynthia agreed as Steven nodded his head. “Just make sure that this man stops.” Cynthia pleaded. With that, she walked out the door with Steven following closely behind her.

“You know, we’re putting a lot of faith in your trainers Lance. I hope that we can get out of this situation.” The Steel-type Champion addressed as he stopped right before the doorway. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some business to take care of.” Steven stated as he walked through the door and shut it.

Now that Lance was alone in the room, he turned his attention back towards the grandfather clock wall. The big hand of the clock was on the 30 while the small hand of the clock pointed towards the middle of the 12 and the 1.

“I guess it’s only a matter of time now…”

Cynthia's Note: Dear Champion Cynthia, what is your favorite color? Mine is blue, can I guess that yours is R.E.D.? If you know what is best, you will follow these two rules of mine or else I will make the information public. The first rule, do not step foot onto Kanto and do not aid Kanto. Simply, leave it be. Break even one of these rules in the slightest? I spill the entire experiment to the public. I'm sure they would love to hear about the circumstances of R.E.D.

Steven's Note: Dear Champion Steven, what do you think people look up to when they think of Champion? Someone who fought their way up to be the best? Or someone who simply paid big bucks to get to where they are now? I believe in Hoenn's case they believe that it is the former, but you are the latter. I'm sure that the Devon Corporation as well as your father are quite familiar with how many paychecks they had to write to essentially create your team. Here's how things are going to go down, just simply do not help Kanto, nor will you go to Kanto. Break these rules, and the truth gets revealed to the public.
-Toby

Lance's Note: You know exactly what I am going to do. Do not intervene or else.

Well, that's got my gears turning. I have some thoughts on what R.E.D. is (namely to do with Galactic's own science experiment and Giratina), but I'm more interested in seeing where the plot goes. Someone better step up to the mark then.
